Chatter Desktop Upgrade!

Salesforce.com are upgrading Chatter Desktop to version 3.1 on Thursday, November 1, 2012. The upgrade will include the following new features:

  • Attach file to comments
  • Sort chat favorites by availability
  • View your chat list by full name
  • View multiple chats more easily
  • Drag-and-drop files to the publisher with a new icon
  • New Chatter feed icon
  • View last activity date for your Chatter groups

How will this change impact me?

On Thursday, November 1, 2012, all users of Chatter Desktop will receive a pop-up notification on their desktop to upgrade to Chatter Desktop 3.1. These users will need to accept the pop-up notification request before they can be upgraded. As with all Chatter Desktop updates, all users in your organization will automatically receive this upgrade.

If you do not want your organization’s end users to automatically receive updates to the latest version of Chatter Desktop, please deploy the “managed” version of Chatter Desktop. This “managed” version enables system administrators to determine when end users will receive updated versions of Chatter Desktop. If your organization has deployed the “managed” version of Chatter Desktop, then the system administrator will be able to manually upgrade every user’s machine when desired.

To deploy the “managed” version of Chatter Desktop, go to Settings > Desktop Administration. From this screen you will find the link to download the “managed” version of Chatter Desktop and deployment instructions.
